Stan and I shot the footage for this video; then I edited it. Three things to remember about this experience: 1) always shoot more B roll than you think you need, because you always need more than you think. 2) Remember to get room tone. 3) Get 'rea…

Digital Generation Loss sounds like something that doesn't happen, but it does.  I often save intermediate clips that are then re-imported to either After Effects or Premiere.  Both applications provide a lossless codec in the form of uncompressed R…

Nice job editing this together, Bill! Thanks for spending the time to do color correction and fixing my white balance problem. Looks great.

Thanks, Stan. Yeah, we thought the wackos' message was already well covered elsewhere--

Thanks for your coverage and your deft editing and narration. When I found out about these wackos I thought they should just be ignored, because all they want is publicity. I think a lot of hate groups (and these people apparently willingly describe…

Where to get Free Music?

Where do you get *legal* music to spice up your video?

There is a post at PegPoint.org which lists 5 places to get free music.

I also like Incompetech.com.

And although they are not free, I like Stock20.com as a source of better, but still cheap, music.

Notes to Self on an Interview Shoot

Especially during a 1-man interview, when I'm rushing to gather equipment and I have 20 things to remember to do, I forget some simple things which will make life much easier after I get everything put away and I start editing.

How to Blur Faces

Forgot to get talent releases? You DO get talent releases, don't you?

I just did a video in which some people in the background didn't want their faces shown. So I did some Googling and found this nice short-and-to-the-point video.

You use the "travel matte Luma" feature.

The video doesn't talk about moving the blur around, but that's easy to figure out--you just select the blur… Continue

Video Black Level "Setup"

"Black Level Setup" aka "Pedestal Setup" aka just "Setup" is one of those things you might hear bandied about. Here is a primer on this subject.

JVC Tutorial on Black Level Setup

Ultimately a commercial for JVC products, but a good visual explanation of what's meant by "setup.
